Matt Chorley of the Western Morning News is running the story that Cornwall’s Conservative candidates have spectacularly failed in their bid to raise money from the public using the ‘MyConservatives’ site. The site was meant to be a mirror of the way that Barack Obama raised money for his successful US Presidential campaign but has instead proved to be an embarrassing flop. Across Devon and Cornwall, the Tories set themselves a target of raising £13,000 but have in fact raised just £134 – and all of that in Devon. Conservative candidates taking part in the fundraising drive were Sian Flynn in North Cornwall, Sheryll Murray in SE Cornwall, Sarah Newton in Truro and Falmouth and Caroline Righton in St Austell and Newquay

I’ve now had an answer from the Council about the sale of parking permits in One Stop Shops. As previously blogged, Cornwall Council is centralising the sale of parking permits in St Austell so they will no longer be available directly from One Stop Shops. My concern was that people would go to the OSS expecting to be able to renew their permit and find that they need to send off a form. I was worried that they would have to pay for more expensive daily tickets until their permits arrived. I asked whether the Council was going to write to current permit holders to tell them about the change

At today’s Communities Scrutiny Committee I secured a commitment to local consultation on sites for gypsy and travellers sites. This will be a change from the proposed policy which would have seen local councillors told about planned sites late in the day and no consultation at all with residents. Council officers presented their proposed consultation protocol. I and my Liberal Democrat colleagues were concerned that local ward members and parish councils would be told what was proposed only when it was a done deal and that local residents would not be consulted at all. And so I asked for proper consultation with communities and involvement of ward members from the start and drew support from councillors from all parties and my proposal was accepted by the Committee

With wonders of modern technology the entire Penzance Harbour debate was broadcast live via twitter here follows a summary of the events that unfolded. To open Phil Mason, Head of Planning, detailed the application to the Strategic planning committee, ending with a ringing endorsement of scheme and bigging up the merits of the design. A South West regional development agency rep named Theo Leisjer outlined how ace the whole idea was and how funding would be lost if not taken at this time, subtly mentioning non planning issues in a planning meeting. Several councillors are this point now bring up the funding threat and are bizarrely reminded by officers that funding should not be an issue in this debate….are the Council having their cake and eating it at this stage? Following the official introduction speakers against are invited to come forward Charlie Cartright, Hadrian Piggott and John Maggs make several points against the plan including the continued objection from English Heritage. Officers remind members to stay on subject and not mention other potential schemes, in particular the recently proposes Option PZ as the only item for consideration is the planning application as outlined.

As the Conservative and Unionist Party , the Tories have come under pressure to live up to their name and stand in Northern Ireland. They did this under their own banner in the past only to be humiliated at the polls. So Cameron launched a grand plan to merge with the Ulster Unionist Party.
