Popular Crackington Haven café strikes silver
THE HAVEN CAFÉ at Crackington Haven has been presented with a silver CHEFS award. Cornwall Healthier Eating and Food Safety (CHEFS) awards are presented to businesses which promote healthier food choices and have high standards of hygiene and staff training. The CHEFS awards are presented by Cornwall Council’s food safety officers in partnership with Eatsome/NHS Health Promotion Service, Change 4 Life and the Council’s trading standards officers. Lifestyle Nick Cooper of the Haven Café said: “This isn’t about losing any of the values that have made the Haven Café the success it is today, it’s about providing our customers with a choice all year round about the food they eat and the lifestyle they wish to follow. “We’d like to think we’re an example to other similar businesses throughout the county.” To achieve a silver award, food establishments must satisfy Cornwall Council food inspectors that they not only offer healthier dishes but, through preferential pricing, that they actively encourage customers to choose them. Award winners should where possible use local produce and meet the highest standards of cleanliness and food hygiene practices, including the use of a documented food safety management system.
