Legal uncertainty halts sale of Trevalga Estate
THE SALE of the Trevalga estate has been suspended while legal investigations are made into whether Marlborough College has the right to sell it. The private school, located in Wiltshire, believed it was the owner and put the 3,000-acre estate between Tintagel and Boscastle up for sale for £10 million. The estate, which produces an income of around £170,000 a year in rent, was withdrawn from the market on Friday while the dispute is considered. About 40 people on six farms and 16 dwellings fear for their future if the estate is sold. A leading barrister and solicitor have contacted the Battle of Trevalga group about the college’s right to sell. Trevalga was left by Gerald Curgenven, the last lord of the manor, to a trust in 1959, with the profits to go to his school, Marlborough College.
